Yala Designs is an ethical fashion brand focusing on comfort and the fact that by being comfortable in the clothes you wear, doesn’t mean you should have to compromise on style.
They are a women founded company that started with this philosophy and took it to another level. You know the feeling of being in your pajamas and feeling super cozy? This is the same feeling you get wearing pieces from Yala’s extensive range.
All of Yala‘s garments are made on small sewing floors by 15-30 highly skilled sewers and knitters to ensure high quality and fair working conditions. They visit their factories multiple times per year to ensure that their standards are always met and to develop close relationships with the people making their clothes.
Yala Designs is all about using natural fibers which are made to last. From sourcing the raw materials, yarn spinning, dyeing, to cutting & sewing, Yala localise their fabric production as much as possible to reduce their carbon footprint. They use low impact dyes in their pieces which are better for the environment and your skin. Also, water used throughout dying is reused over and over again which I think more brands should strive to achieve, as large amounts of water are used throughout clothing production which is obviously not the greatest for Mother Earth.
Some of the fabrics they use are:
Organic cotton – Organic Cotton has many advantages when compared to traditional cotton as well as other fabrics. No petroleum scours, formaldehyde, anti-wrinkling agents, chlorine bleaches, or any other unnatural materials have been used in the manufacturing process of organic cotton so it is hypoallergenic and 100% eco friendly.

Bamboo – Bamboo is a very sustainable crop; a fast growing grass, it requires no fertilizer and self-regenerates from its own roots, so it doesn’t need to be replanted.

Review of Yala Design’s pieces
The lovely team behind Yala sent me some of their pieces to review the quality of their garments and let you guys know about it.
I was sent:
Ingrid Hooded Wrap in Oyster Melange
This is one of those extremely versatile wardrobe staples that can be worn year round. It features an elegant design with buttons to wear open or closed. I really liked the softness of the bamboo fabric against my skin and know that I will continue wearing this throughout the winter months we are currently facing in NZ!
It is one sized, so would be perfect for a gift too!
Amelie Swing Tank in Mineral
The Amelie Swing Tank from Yala is an organic cotton tank which is perfect for layering or simply wearing on its own. The cut of this is one that I really like; it flows and sits really nicely.
Kai Top in Oyster Stripe
Who else loves a nice top that has a nice sleeve length, not too low cut, & lightweight? Well, I have got you covered with the Kai Top from Yala Designs. It packs well for travel and doesn’t form wrinkles. I love the relaxed fit it has and that you can pair it with jeans, shorts, and leggings! This comes in a range of colours too!
I absolutely love all of the pieces Yala sent me. They have a big range, so wherever you are in the world, and whatever season you are in, I can guarantee that you’ll find something for you!
